Salem Artists’ Row Season Opening 2024. This May, Salem, MA is set to buzz with creativity and excitement as the Artists’ Row Season Opening Market Weekend & Launch Party kicks off. Located at 24 New Derby Street, this event promises a vibrant celebration of local arts and culture. Here’s your guide to the weekend’s festivities:

Friday, May 3, 2024, 7-9pm – Spring Preview Party

Kickstart your weekend with our Spring Preview Party on Friday evening. Join us at ChagallPAC from 7pm to 9pm to explore new work for the 2024 season, including the captivating May collection titled “Fire, Flowers, and Fiber.” Enjoy poetic performances by Shari Caplan, featuring pieces from her latest book “Exhibitionist,” and engage in interactive typewriter poetry and surrealist games provided by Holy Crow. Light refreshments will be available to enhance your evening.

Saturday, May 4, 2024, 10am – 6pm – Market & Activities

Saturday brings a full day of activities at Artists’ Row, starting at 10am. Meet local artists, partake in art-making activities, enjoy live music, savor delicious food, and shop unique art and crafts. Don your fanciest hat and join in the Fancy, Prancy, and Dancey themes of the day:

  • 1-3pm: Don’t miss the Hobby Horse Race led by Annie and the Fur Trappers, starting by Lobster Shanty. Grab a hobby horse, or bring your own broomstick, and race down Artist’s Row!
  • 3:00pm: Experience traditional English folk dance with Whistle Pig Morris, showcasing their talents right on the Row.

Sunday, May 5, 2024, 10am-5pm – Workshops & Salons

The festivities continue on Sunday with workshops and salons aimed at enriching your artistic spirit:

  • 10am-12pm: Participate in a Natural Dye Workshop at Robbersdaughter Studio. This hands-on workshop will let you create a beautifully dyed silk alter cloth using natural dyes.
  • 4-5:30pm: Engage with poets from around the world at the World Poetry Salon led by poet and ChagallPAC co-director Diana Norma Szokolyai. This salon is a wonderful opportunity to explore and respond to diverse poetic voices.

Artists’ Row, a vibrant public space and incubator in Salem, is a hub for artists and the community to engage and celebrate public art and creativity. It has a range of dining and shopping options, including the local favorite Lobster Shanty and the eclectic Shindig! store, Artists’ Row offers an enriching environment for artists and visitors.
