This year’s annual fundraiser at The House of the Seven Gables shines a light on its prized location on Salem’s historic waterfront. What is treasured must be protected. Sips by the Sea unites community and The Gables in citywide efforts to preserve Salem’s beloved historic resources as climate change impacts the waterfront. On Saturday, September 10, from 7 to 9:30 p.m., all are invited to one of Salem’s favorite fundraisers to savor seaside cocktails and tasty bites, participate in silent art auctions and raffles to win trips of a lifetime and, as always, relish the gorgeous views with friends and neighbors. The Gables’ new Executive Director Dakota Russell looks forward to introducing himself to Gables’ supporters, and Collections Manager Susan Baker will be on hand to speak about the ways Salem is working to protect some of this country’s most storied assets in the face of climate change. Super-supporter tickets cost a little more but provide notable perks like one-on-one time with the new executive director, a cocktail and first access to onsite parking. Enjoy a Hurricane or a Dark & Stormy as you support Salem’s future. All tickets, with prices ranging from $165 to $65, are available here. This year The Gables is making a concerted effort to engage younger supporters in deeper involvement with this iconic institution and its range of missions that includes championing native son Nathaniel Hawthorne and American literature, the presentation and preservation of its historic structures, Settlement programming for immigrants new to this country and connecting with other young emissaries willing to bring their skills and passion to the multiplicity of missions. For more information on ways to get involved, those interested may contact Zoe Quinn at zquinn@7gables.org. At Sips by the Sea, The Gables partners with distilleries and breweries such as Far From the Tree and Deacon Giles. Those attending will sample flights of cocktails and passed appetizers named after the four most imminent threats to the historic property: rising groundwater, rising sea level, heat and humidity, and storms. Original art and experiences like a night on the town will be offered at silent auction. The eight trips to be raffled are: Costa Rica, historic castles of Ireland, Iceland, Key West, San Francisco and Napa Valley, French vineyards, the Greek islands, and the Amalfi coast. A full bar for those who wish to purchase additional cocktails will be available. Proceeds from the popular event support educational opportunities for immigrant families and assist with crucial preservation efforts. The Gables continues to rebound after a complete shutdown during the pandemic and ongoing caution during tours of the 1668 Mansion. This annual fundraiser goes a long way toward helping The Gables extend its longevity into the future. Learn more at https://7gables.org/event/sips-by-the-sea/
