Alder & Spice is dedicated to creating high-quality candles to brighten and enhance any space. We hand-pour each candle using premium ingredients to ensure a clean, non-toxic, long-lasting burn with a beautiful and balanced fragrance. Our mission is to provide our customers with an exquisite range of candles that elevate their surroundings, create a vibe, and/or help them unwind after a long day. With the wide variety of scents in our collection, our candles are the perfect finishing touch to your décor.
Tell us a bit about you and why you do what you do. Share your passions for your business, organization, or initiative.
I’m Kat, the founder of Alder & Spice Candle Co. This company was initially started as just a hobby; a creative outlet and change from my everyday work as a professional software project manager. As I got more and more excited about the science and fun of coming up with new ideas, making the candles, and testing them, I began giving them out as gifts to friends, family, and co-workers. After being asked to create some custom candle collections for local businesses, I decided to evolve the brand into the small company we are today! We continue to make custom candles, but also create small-batch collections for sale online and at markets and fairs.
What is the last thing you read, watched, or listened to that had an impact on you?
I recently re-watched one of my favorite shows, called Sense 8. It’s a beautiful work of realistic fiction that (to me) acts as a brilliant social commentary, calls into question what it means to be human, and prompts the watcher to think about their personal connection to the world.
What’s the one thing people would be surprised to learn about you or your business?
As an on-and-off insomniac, I do a lot of my creative design work lying in bed on sleepless nights. Sometimes it helps me fall back asleep!
