Meet Lightshed Photography Studio – They specialize in weddings, portraits, baby and PR photography. Based out of Salem, MA, their award-winning photographers are never far from your next special occasion.
1) Tell us a bit about you and what you do?
We’re a husband & wife team that both focus on different areas of photography: Kendra works primarily with families, kids, and babies and Dan does all the B2B work: headshots, real estate, and commercial ( in a nutshell: Kendra has endless patience for children and Dan has endless patience for adults ).
2) What do you love the most about your creative work?
It’s always different. Dan’s father was an accountant for the entirety of his life and always spoke about how he ran on automatic later in his career. It’s not really possible to fall into that trap with what we do as the landscape of our services and how we perform them is constantly changing ( so is the environment – you don’t feel pinned behind a desk when only half the work is in front of the computer ).
3) How does your creative work contribute to the Creative Economy?
That’s a good question that I suppose we need to ask ourselves more. We’ve spent so much time focusing on making this thing work that we haven’t contributed all that much back into the creative pool. We’re hoping that we’ll be able to share our knowledge ( and failures as a means of growth ) to more folks that want to make a go at making their passion their business in the future.
4) What’s the one thing people wouldn’t know about you?
If I had to guess it’s about our studio space; the common question we always hear is, “Wow look at this studio – how on earth did you end up here, and especially in your mid-20s?” The answer is really just grit. We worked two jobs and took no days off ( save for family and holidays ) for years. In the beginning, we paid for the studio space, utilities, etc out of pocket until slowly it began to pay for itself and, eventually, until it paid us.
