Sevening (v.): the act of showing up after seven(ish) — for your people, your community, and honestly yourself, somewhere in Essex County. New to sevening? Me too. The stars have charted the full definition in our About Time Edition. The rest of you are already in alignment.

Oh hey there, Essex County. Nothing’s in retrograde (yet), give it a few days starlings. It’s just me, your friendly neighborhood and county baby king, Sal Stysse.

Listen, starlings, (un)forever yeong is out of orbit this week for summer solstice (Sal Stysse, tee hee), and it’s so an astronomical obligation. Turns out the sun parked itself at its highest point in the sky for the longest day of the year, and somebody beyond the stars decided yeong’s whole chart got tangled in the transit. Mercury, Venus, the sun itself — all huddled up in some rare alignment that, frankly, yeong could not ignore. Last we heard, yeong vanished into the universe itself, drifting off with Star Gayzer to go lie in a field of stars somewhere and “absorb the summer solstice person-ally.” We stan a person-al cosmic moment, and mos def, we stan the company per disappeared with.

So tonight, the (s)evening shift sent up their resident astrology correspondent. That’s me, Sal Stysse, and no, before you ask, the name is not a coincidence. The stars wrote it themselves. I read horoscopes, I read rooms, and apparently this week I’m reading you Essex County’s events. Cosmic substitute teacher energy. Try to behave.

Here’s what the universe witnessed while I was busy checking my retrogrades, sevenings included everything from a wine and paint night to a Queer Heroes reading, a Juneteenth flag raising to a luau. There were herbs, Lydia, heels, a moon beer (YAS starling), and Henley Douglas Jr. played his own fundraiser like the multi-hyphenate icon he is. Essex County did not skip a single sevening while yeong’s chart realigned. As if it would.

And now? The solstice has arrived in full. The sun is doing its longest, brightest, most extra performance of the year, and the stars — my stars, if you’ll let me have this one — say it’s a week for alignment, illumination, and showing up exactly as bright as you are. Seacoast Queeraoke Night at 6:00 PM

Sevenings will be signing off the week from the Seacoast Stilletos studio, where every voice gets its own moment center stage beneath an imaginary spotlight of stars. Host Richard XO keeps the night moving at a steady, welcoming pace, the kind of gravity that pulls even the shyest singer toward the mic. For one hundred fifty glittering minutes, this queer karaoke night becomes its own self-contained universe of celebration and belonging. Whether your voice soars like a comet or wobbles like a new moon finding its phase, the room holds space for every sound.
