We continue our #SummerSnaps Feature this week by shining a light on one half of the Lightshed Photography Studio duo: Kendra St. John.

In this interview, Kendra gives a bit of insight into her process, her unique style and where you can find out more about her and her work.

Tell us about who you are and describe what you do?

My name is Kendra St. John.  I’m one of the owners and photographers at Lightshed Photography Studio.  I focus on capturing maternity, newborn, children and family portraits.

When did you first fall in love with photography?

In high school I took multiple different art classes and had the opportunity to intern for a grade school art teacher and a photographer.  Frankly, I choose photography over being an art teacher because I didn’t want to spend four years in college.  Instead, I went to Hallmark Institute of Photography where I learn not only the art of photography but the business as well.  This was a 10 month program where you attended from 8:00am until 5:00pm Monday through Friday.  Now I couldn’t imagine doing anything different.

How would you describe your style as an artist?

I lean more towards classic portraits especially in studio but also like to get creative on personal projects such as underwater maternity photography.

What is working with you like?

I’m pretty laid back but try to make the experience more upscale.  It starts with the initial phone call when I figure out just what someone is looking for when it comes to their session.  From there, I help select a location for  on location sessions or backdrops for in studio.  I help with coordinating outfits so that everyone looks their best.  I try and make the session as fun as possible, especially when little ones are involved.  After the session, I put together a beautiful slideshow that also includes fun video clips from the session for the clients to watch during their viewing presentation.  During this time we select their favorite images and decide how they want to display them.

What’s one thing that you would like your clients and fans to just know about you?

I create beautiful works of art with portraits with the intent to have them displayed in the form of wall art that you will enjoy for years to come.  This is what I love doing and I’m extremely passionate about it.

Where can we find out more about you and the work that you do?
