About Us

Cornucopia Threads is a fiber art studio based in Peabody, Massachusetts, specializing in hand-tufted rugs and textile art. Founded in 2023 by Chilean fiber artist Javiera Garcia, this slow and steady project has been developing since 2021 when Javiera first picked up a tufting gun. A collection of handcrafted fiber art and décor, Cornucopia Threads transforms simple elements from nature into textile pieces that infuse everyday life with artistry and charm. Drawing inspiration from the rich colors and supernatural beauty of the natural world, each piece reflects Javiera’s artistic journey—from her mother gifting her a loom at age 13 to immersing herself in Oaxaca’s artistic traditions. As a self-taught artist who learned rug making through practice and persistence, Javiera specializes in weaving, embroidery, punch needle, and tufting, creating one-of-a-kind pieces that are not just decoration but functional art meant to be used, cared for, and cherished.

Specialty Features

Every Cornucopia Threads piece begins as a hand-drawn design on iPad, then transforms through careful tufting, gluing, cutting, backing, and carving to create depth, texture, and definition. This multi-step process is what makes each creation special.

What Makes Us Unique

  • Self-Taught Artistry – learned through practice, persistence, and embracing failure as part of the creative process
  • Therapeutic Process – the time involved and different steps of creating tufted pieces provide therapeutic, meditative creation
  • Nature-Inspired Design – inspired by simple elements in nature with rich, sometimes supernatural colors
  • Cultural Influence – artistic style shaped by Chilean heritage and Oaxacan artistic traditions
  • Sensory Comfort – fiber brings a range of sensory experiences, from crafting to sinking your toes into finished rugs
  • Bilingual Workshops – tufting classes offered in both English and Spanish
The Creative Process

Each design begins as a vision on iPad, where Javiera draws and visualizes her ideas before projecting them onto fabric. The tufting stage follows, often taking several days to complete as each fiber is carefully placed. After tufting, glue is applied, each piece is cut, and backing is attached. The final step involves carefully carving the fibers to add depth, texture, and definition. The therapeutic nature of this slow, intentional process is what made Javiera fall in love with rug making—every step requires presence, patience, and care.

Artistic Philosophy

Cornucopia Threads believes that art pieces hold meaning found in everyday life. Each rug or wall hanging is not merely decorative—it’s designed to foster interaction, to be walked on, touched, and lived with. Fiber offers a unique range of sensory comforts whether you’re wearing it, crafting it, or sinking your toes into it. This philosophy transforms functional home items into meaningful artistic expressions that bring warmth and character to any space.
