This past weekend, Salem Arts Association Presented 2022 Scholarships to Three Local Graduates, Arianna Shalhoub, Lena Faeskorn, and Leena Sarhan.

In 2022, the Salem Arts Association introduced the Creative Collective Innovation Award, presented to a graduate from any North Shore school who demonstrates creative innovation in visual arts, performance, and multi-media. This award encourages inclusive innovation in any creative efforts and celebrates student achievements that take their talent to new places through interdisciplinary work, collaborations, breaking systemic boundaries, and creating outcomes beyond the traditional.

The recipient of the 2022 Creative Collective Innovation Award is Arianna Maria Shalhoub.

Creative Collective: Tell us who you are, your pronouns, what school you are graduating from, and where do you plan to go next?

Arianna: My name is Arianna Shalhoub, and my pronouns are she/her. I graduated from Austin Prep, and I’m attending Tufts University this fall.

Creative Collective: What kind of art do you make?

Arianna: I enjoy participating in a variety of forms of art, including traditional art, digital art, animation, graphic design, filmmaking, and dance.

Creative Collective: How does it feel to be a recipient of the inaugural Creative Collective Innovation Award?

Arianna: I’m really honored to be considered for this distinction. It means a lot to me to have my artwork enjoyed and appreciated by others.

Creative Collective: Who are your inspirations?

Arianna: I’m inspired by my teachers, my family, and my friends. I am fortunate to have had enthusiastic and encouraging art teachers during my schooling.

Creative Collective: If you could give advice to your former self, what would it be?

Arianna: I would reinforce advice that I have received already and find enlightening. This includes being true to yourself, be confident in your abilities, and explore the areas of your art from which you derive satisfaction. I believe in the importance of using various modalities available to express my art, especially as technology continues to change.

Creative Collective: What does innovation mean to you?

Arianna: Innovation is looking at the world around us in unconventional ways. It is great to appreciate the way things are, but it is important to think about how things would appear and affect us if we adjusted the way that we see them.

Creative Collective: What’s coming up next for you artistically?

Arianna: I will start to work towards my BA and BFA combined degree at Tufts in their 5 year program with the School of the Museum of Fine Arts (SMFA) this fall. I’m also really excited about working on a children’s book that I will be illustrating. It will be published within the next year.

Creative Collective: Anything else you’d like to share?

Arianna: I just wanted to say thank you again to the Creative Collective and the Salem Arts Association. I really appreciate this recognition and I feel very honored to have my art distinguished through the Creative Collective Innovation Award.
