Interviewee:
Jennifer Jasmin (She/Her)
In your own words, tell us about your business, organization, or initiative.
Jasmin Nutrition, LLC is a nutrition counseling and consulting business. Clients come to get one-on-one coaching to help them make sustainable lifestyle changes. They are most often striving to reach goals related to heart health (like lowering cholesterol,) weight management, blood sugar control (like reversing pre-diabetes.) Some folks seek guidance about eating to support exercise goals, or education about general dietary guidance to prevent disease and reduce confusion created by our diet obsessed culture. Many clients qualify to have counseling services covered by health insurance. Skeletons in My Kitchen is a site and community where I post monthly cooking videos, recipes, newsletters, and unbiased, unsponsored product reviews for anyone looking to become more confident cooking and feeding themselves in a balanced, healthy way. I also post content related to mindfulness, movement, food culture and sometimes even cats!
Tell us a bit about you and why you do what you do. Share your passions for your business, organization, or initiative.
I’m a registered dietitian with over 14 years of experience helping people figure out what it means to eat healthy in a sustainable way. I’ve realized that no one really teaches any of us how to eat. We’re all bombarded with nutrition and wellness messaging, whether we want it or not, and yet, we all remain really confused and overwhelmed when it comes to how to feed ourselves. My mission in my private counseling practice, Jasmin Nutrition, LLC, and my Patreon site, Skeletons in My Kitchen is to help people uncomplicate food and find ease, laughter, and joy in cooking and eating. As someone who used to be a picky eater, and who has come to cooking skills later in life, I want everyone to know it doesn’t have to be hard, or tasteless to eat for your health.
What is the last thing you read, watched, or listened to that had an impact on you?
Professionally, I can’t get enough of the work Dr. Jud Brewer is doing regarding food and habit change. His book “The Hunger Habit” is a must read for anyone, like me, who struggles with their relationship to food.
Personally, I’m obsessed with the current season of White Lotus and the wild roller coaster ride of emotions every character makes me feel. Not to mention that it’s shot in a location that just begs to be daydreamed about!
What’s the one thing people would be surprised to learn about you or your business?
I seem like an extrovert, but I’m actually quite shy. I love connecting with people, but making videos has been a really wild and vulnerable experience for me that has forced me to really get far out of my comfort zone. Also, I hate blueberries.
