In your own words, tell us about your business, organization, or initiative.
We are a locally focused group that is looking to build community and promote local artists. Games help people bond, make friends and talk about difficult things in a more accessible way. They are great for mental health and stimulation. They create unique memorable experiences that can be a thread that binds people together. Games have the ability to teach and inform by engaging players in role playing or situations or making you think about what and why you are doing things. We want to give a spotlight to designers in the area and make the North Shore a hub for game creation again.
Tell us a bit about you and why you do what you do. Share your passions for your business, organization, or initiative.
I am part of a passionate team that loves games and see the good they can bring about in social settings. We are creating unique and under-served experiences, as gaming continues to grow in popularity, and is especially prevalent on the North Shore.
What is the last thing you read, watched, or listened to that had an impact on you?
I recently played Pax Pamir, a game about the struggle for Afghanistan by the English, Russian armies along with the native tribes. Being thrust into that position and having to make choices that very ethically dubious at best was a great source of introspection on why things may happen they way they do in history. The trickiness of that game brought a lot of light to how Afghanistan got the nickname of the graveyard of empires.
What’s the one thing people would be surprised to learn about you or your business?
We are the first gaming convention in Salem, the home of Parker Brothers. Classic games like monopoly, clue and more were made here and sent all over the nation.
