Winter in Salem transforms into a magical celebration as the beloved Salem’s So Sweet Chocolate & Ice Sculpture Festival marks its 23rd year. This cherished tradition, running from February 7 through February 9, 2025, promises to enchant visitors with a spectacular blend of culinary delights and artistic wonder.
A Sparkling Opening Night
The festival kicks off with an exclusive Friday evening fundraiser at the PEM Connect Space, located at 135 Essex Street. This opening celebration, generously sponsored by St. Jean’s Credit Union, offers attendees a truly special experience. Each guest receives a commemorative glass, complimentary wine pour, and a carefully curated goodie bag filled with sweet treats. The evening continues with a self-guided tour through downtown Salem, where participating businesses welcome ticket holders with wine tastings and delectable treats.
Illuminated Ice Sculptures Transform Downtown
The festival’s crown jewel features 30 stunning ice sculptures strategically placed throughout downtown Salem. This year introduces an enhanced viewing experience with two nights of special illumination. Friday evening showcases select illuminated pieces along the Essex Street Pedestrian Mall and Lappin Park. At the same time, Saturday night sees all sculptures throughout town dramatically lit from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., weather permitting.
Sweet Treats and Local Charm
Salem’s businesses embrace the festival spirit by offering unique Valentine’s Day-themed promotions and chocolate-inspired treats throughout the weekend. Visitors can participate in the entertaining “Chocolate Hearts Challenge,” searching for special festival signage at participating locations for a chance to win prizes. While purchases aren’t required to participate, supporting local businesses adds to the festival’s community spirit.
Community Collaboration
This wintertime celebration represents the best of Salem’s community collaboration. Organized by Salem Main Streets and the Salem Chamber of Commerce, with support from local businesses, including Salem Witch Museum and Witch City Walking Tours, the festival receives additional backing through Destination Salem’s tourism initiative.
