About Boo-dy of Work Edition

Sevening (v.): the act of showing up after seven(ish), for your people, your community, and honestly yourself in Essex County. New here? Get a head start, honeys. The original definition lives in our About Time Edition, and it’s the backbone of this whole operation. Go take a peek. We’ll wait. No bones about it.

Oh hey there, Essex County. Feeling yourself? Good. So are we.

The (s)evening shift did a full-body scan of the calendar, and honeys, the results are in: she’s stacked. Last week, Essex County dusted off the classics: taco trivia, a tombstone trolley, live band karaoke, burlesque, pumpkin carving, parlor magic, two monsters from 1931, and more. Old bones? Sure. Still moving? Always.

But mid-October in Essex County is a full-contact sport and this week works every inch of you. That’s a full boo-dy of work. Ears at an open mic. Hands in the watercolors. Necks and wrists at a charm bar. A voice that could pass for James Taylor’s. Faces in ink, a Count with a thing for necks, heart and soul in Gloucester, 2,000 pumpkin heads on a hill, legs for days at a drag show, and a spine-tingler in a centuries-old house. Head to toe, nothing skipped. So shake a leg, honeys, and get your boo-dy out the door (yeong’s is already halfway there. teeheehee.).

Watercolor 101 & Card Making at 6:30 PM

Watercolor illustration of various pumpkins, gourds, and radishes surrounding the text “HAPPY AUTUMN DAYS.”Show of hands, who’s painted before? Nobody? Perfect. Couch Dog Brewing hosts Watercolor 101, where local artist Winny Kwong-Sito hands you the basics and you paint your own fall-themed card. It’s all in the wrist. Keep a steady hand, a loose grip, and an eye for color, and you’ll have a handmade card by the last sip. One hand for the brush, one for the beer. Do not mix them up. Again. You know who you are. Give the finished card to someone who has your heart, or someone you keep at arm’s length. Hands down, the prettiest thing you’ll make.

Until next week, Essex County. The nights are long, the bodies are busy, and you’re a work of art from wig to toe. Stay sevening. You know where to find us. We’re everywhere, body and soul.
