Oh hey there, Essex County. We see you. No really. We actually see you. You been seen. For realsies.

You may have noticed, but something has shifted (this edition, silly) — not in what we do but in what we know. We know this county. We know what it does after seven. Last week it did full moon yoga under an actual full moon, carved linoleum blocks, smashed Smash Bros, asked questions about whose history gets preserved, stood in front of Bobbie Bush’s layered luminous work, line danced under a tree, watched thirty plays in sixty minutes, found books at a brewery, got on its feet for Gloria and Emilio, and let the Preservation Hall Jazz Band do what sixty-five years of doing it right sounds like. That is Essex County being exactly, completely, unapologetically itself.

And (unforever) yeong and the (s)evening shift? Still here. Still on it. Still yours. This week our county steps into the light — and honey, it has never looked better. Glasses on, people (fashion lenses and all). We are not missing a single thing. Oh and Essex County? We have always seen you. Every. Single. Sevening. One. Of. You.

Oh, honeys! Oh my gosh, okay, so BevCam is literally hosting the most amazing camera workshop with Levi Cyr-Redcross and I am so here for it. We’re talking aperture! We’re talking ISO! We’re talking shutter speed so perfectly dialed in that light itself will weep with joy! Put down your phone and pick up a real camera — go on, we dare you. You just bring whatever camera you have — any camera — and he basically makes you good at photography in one hour. One hour! That’s less time than my dog’s spa routine. The only thing more stunning than your future photographs will be the photographer behind the lens.

The Myths and Misconceptions about the Salem Witchcraft Trials at 6:00 PM

Margo Burns does not have time for your ergot theories. Nope, uh-uh, not at all. As the tenth-generation great-granddaughter of hanged accused Rebecca Nurse and associate editor of the Cambridge University Press definitive record collection, she comes equipped with receipts — actual historical receipts. She’s unpacking ergot theories, land-grab narratives, and whatever else popular culture invented and called fact. She’s sorting it all out at The Witch House, where shadows pool in familiar corners. Consider it a spellbinding evening of myth-busting that’ll leave you hanging on every word. What you thought you knew about Salem was always just the beginning of a far stranger, more human story.

Ready to make a good impression? Essex Art Center‘s risograph class is pressing all the right buttons. If your creative output has been looking a little too clean, a little too polished, a little too obviously made on a laptop — risograph printing is here to save your artistic reputation. The unpredictable alchemy of ink meeting paper in ways that digital tools cannot replicate or fully predict. You bring your designs — collaged, hand-drawn, or digital — and something unexpected will emerge. I need everything I own printed on a risograph immediately. This class is everything. Everything.

A Salem Ren Faire Dungeons & Dragons One-Shot ⚔️  at 5:30 PM

Oyez, oyez! Grab your dice, lace up your corsets and secure your armor, honeys — before the Salem Ren Faire opens its gates, Nocturne is inviting you to a D&D complete standalone adventure. One shot. One night. Infinite drama. A Dungeon Master of extraordinary talent will be serving LOOKS and LORE and will NOT be taking questions about their character build. You get a pre-made character so you can walk in already iconic, a mystery dice set that is YOURS to keep because we give gifts around here, and a miniature figure of your heroic self because you got that sevening energy. The realm, as they say, reveals character quickly.

Come Create Night at 7:00 PM

Creativity isn’t hanging by a thread — it’s absolutely yarning for you! The Ladies Entrance has painted a picture of the bestest community night: show up, make something, pay whatever you can. That’s it. That’s the whole darn deal. I mean, yarn, paint, stamps, pastels, fabric, felt, magazines, clay and more in a curated space so abundant with possibility that arriving without a project idea is not a problem — it is, in fact, an absolutely delightful opportunity. All ages, all women, all funding Survivor Nest’s art programming for survivors of childhood sexual abuse — meaning every dollar and every stitch connects to something that genuinely matters. What could be more sevening?

Juneteenth Flag Raising Ceremony – Marblehead  at 4:00 PM

Juneteenth! Marblehead! Yes, I said what I said. The North Shore Juneteenth Association has gathered this community before — and will again — to witness the raising of a flag that carries more history than most symbols ever will. It marks the day freedom was finally, belatedly extended. It acknowledges what was withheld and what was fought for. This is the kind of civic moment that sounds simple — a flag, a pole, a ceremony — and turns out to be quietly profound. Liberation. Resilience. Collective strength. All are welcome. Free for all. These aren’t abstractions here — they’re the entire point, honeys. 

People Like That at 7:30 PM

Look here look here looky here. Look, if you’ve ever been judged, misunderstood, or quietly sorted into the “people like that” category by someone who had no business doing the sorting — this musical was written for you – a musical about love, identity, and the dramatic courage it takes to live authentically. Firehouse Center for the Arts may simply not be large enough to contain its emotional magnificence! Shut the front door! The story follows two young women finding their footing — and their feelings — while the show performs a quiet miracle: making their journey feel like everyone’s. One imagines the audience will leave having reconsidered at least one assumption about who “people like that” actually includes. Things that make me go hmm…

The Salem Fashion Show at Gallows Hill Artists at 6:00 PM

Prepare yourselves, gurlz, boiz, and everyone elze — Salem’s fashion scene is having a MOMENT in the spotlight — and it is dressed for the occasion. Gallows Hill Artists rolls out the runway for the inaugural Salem Fashion Show, where local designers stitch together historic influence and modern flair into wearable art that’s entirely one of a kind. Fashion you won’t find in any other city on earth, staged in one of Salem’s most distinctive creative spaces, portion of proceeds funds YAHO’s youth homelessness programs. Salem’s fashion community has arrived, it has a platform, and it is absolutely ready to slay.

Kölsch Service Event at 6:00 PM

Okay I like literally just learned what a stang is and now we need to gather so I can share the goodies. Granite Coast Brewing isn’t just pouring beer, it’s brewing up something special — it’s importing an entire cultural tradition — ancient, deliberate, almost ceremonial. Think on this, honeys – A server arrives without being summoned. The glass refills before you notice it emptied. The only way to stop it is to be in the know. Do you know? I know. I just have to decide what to do with my boo, Seraphine. But seriously. Communal long tables, very social, very European feeling. Some evenings have their own momentum — this one was designed that way. Let’s get all cosmopolitan!

Mooring Rental at Bakers Island Light Station at 12:00 PM

Um Hellur! If you’ve been adrift looking for weekend plans, Essex Heritage just anchored your calendar. The mooring rental at Bakers Island Light Station is your vessel to one of the North Shore’s most illuminating escapes — a historic lighthouse on a Salem Harbor island accessible only by boat. Day trips are welcome, but if you really want to shine, book the separate overnight camping and wake up with Salem Harbor stretching in every direction. Like literally every direction. It’s the kind of experience that makes landlocked weekends look shallow by comparison. The best thing about being seen is when to not be seen. Like on your very own island. And sometimes that’s exactly the kind of being seen that changes everything.

Consider this your Been Seen moment in the light. We saw you coming.
