“We want to make sure that we’re still pushing, that we’re still trying to fight for that change, but you also have to make sure that you’re taking care of yourself and you’re doing the best you can with what you know.” – Espy
Stephanie “Espy” Espinal is an Afro-Latina New England freelance photographer and videographer and the owner of Stephanie Espinal Creative. She also teaches Jazz, Contemporary, and Musical Theater in Burlington when she’s not out capturing the world.
Currently, she’s part of public artist Liz Lamanche’s collaborative team creating the Unity Path art installation on Artists’ Row in downtown Salem, a piece inspired by Salem’s diverse history and current identity which includes Latinx, African American, Indigenous, Middle Eastern, Albanian, Brazilian, Dominican, Afrohispanic, Afro-Caribbean, Puerto Rican, South Asian, and European cultures.
Espy joins Joey Phoenix on the podcast to talk about her role in this project, her path to becoming a visual artist, and some of her thoughts on life, the universe, and everything.
