The Marblehead Arts Association is excited to welcome solo, duo and trio artists’ exhibits to the King Hooper Mansion galleries to begin the Summer season. Most artists will offer programming to accompany their exhibit. Some of the artists’ demos and gallery talks will be included as part of Marblehead Art Walk held during the May 18-19 weekend.

Agusta Agustsson, Sandra Golbert & Beverly Hinckley Good Fibrations; An exhibit of modern fiber – Mixed Media, Fiber, and Textiles
A trio of fiber artists has assembled a show of their work that pushes the boundaries between wall hangings, fine craft, and art. Stitches can be used as mark making and fabric can become a medium. Bev Hinckley takes traditional quilt patterns to new levels. Using bright colors and patterns she explores form and texture. “ Sewing has a rhythm like breathing. Claudia Kaufman & Melissa Fisher, Lust and Luster – Oil Paintings & Handcrafted Jewelry
Claudia Kaufman, past MAA president and Melissa Fisher, current MAA president have teamed up to present a luscious exhibit with an unexpected pairing of mediums. What tempts the eye can be shiny or gooey, gleaming or sugary, shimmering or sweet. This exhibit is sure to leave your eyes dazzled and your mouth watering.
Charlie Allen, Tuscan Days 2017-2018 – Drawings
During a recent artist residency at Il Palmerino in Florence, longtime MAA artist and arts educator, Charlie Allen set himself a task of doing a sketch a day. This exhibit is a testimony to his practice and reveals an acute eye to the details of the architecture, gardens and landscape of Tuscany.
Tereza Swanda, Bridging– Multimedia installation
MAA artist member and gallery associate, Tereza Swanda, works within both personal and political history to create her current project, Bridging. In a multi-media installation, she combines drawing, video, painting, and sculpture to pierce the nooks and crannies of the 18th century King Hooper Mansion. She considers a layered history and questions the “I” that speaks.
Amy Montague Friend, Seeking Simplicity and Chasing Light: Reactions from the Field – Oil and graphite on paper
After undergoing medical treatment in the fall of 2016, Amy M. Friend found herself healing by chasing light and simplicity through oil and graphite on paper. She presents a small collection from over 100 floral studies and oil paintings created in the soft glow of afternoon light on her journey to find health and a new normal.

Jannette Crespo, Compositions 2016-2019 – Acrylic Painting
With her paintings, Janette Crespo uses abstraction and geometry to reconsider the Still Life: interpreting the subject in conventional and unconventional spaces.

The Marblehead Arts Association is located in the historic King Hooper Mansion, at 8 Hooper Street, Marblehead. Six galleries of exhibits by association members and guest artists change every six weeks and education programs and special events are offered throughout the year. The MAA Artisan Shop features one-of-a-kind affordable crafts including jewelry, pottery, glassworks and textiles by our artisan members.
