About All Hallows Edition
Sevening (v.): the act of showing up after seven(ish), for your people, your community, and honestly yourself in Essex County. New here? Don’t just stand there looking like you’ve seen a ghost, honeys. The original definition lives in our About Time Edition, and it’s been haunting this whole operation from day one. Go take a peek. We’ll wait. We’re dead serious.
Oh hey there, Essex County. Hear that creak? That’s the door to Halloween week swinging wide open, honeys. Come on in. Mind the cobwebs.
The (s)evening shift peeked into the crystal ball last week, and yuppers, every ding dang prophecy came true. Essex County was spellbound: a Hocus Pocus paint night, charcuterie wands, a tarot deck conjured on camera, Magic Hunks, cryptids in drag, a heels bash, castle karaoke, a Van Ghost, a four-band potion, and three voices that held the room. Spells? Cast. Brooms? Parked. Mostly.
But now it’s All Hallows’ Eve week, and the (s)evening shift is clocking in for the graveyard shift. Every spectre, troll, ghoul, ghost, witch, warlock and zombie in Essex County is crawling out for the big one. Salem’s own drag monster, two Aunt Hildas, a Phantom, a haunted house, a devilish night underground, a wrong turn gallery, and more for you to seek. So come out, come out, wherever you haunt… (yeong’s already hiding behind you. BOO! teeheehee.).

Dragula Watch Party at 7:00 PM
Rise from the grave, honeys, because Salem has a monster on the runway. Bit Bar is screening season 7 of Dragula, starring Salem’s own Samuel Bendix, and we are clutching our pearls, our fangs, and our pints of Pumpkin head Ale. Your hosts are a haunted house of local filth, fierce and fabulous: PeeWee Vermin, Maxine Harrison, Dick Kayin, and Slick O’Connell. Expect screams, gasps, and very loud opinions about every ghoulish look. Don’t be a basic witch, order one or live the death shot in a skull glass. When our girl hits that stage, scream like it’s the final scene. Extermination? Over our dead bodies.

Two Witches Fly Into a Bar: Caroline Rhea + Lucy Davis – October 28 at 7:00 PM
Two witches fly into a bar. Stop us if you’ve heard this one. Oh wait, you haven’t. Caroline Rhea and Lucy Davis, the Aunt Hildas of Sabrina the Teenage Witch and Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, swoop into The Cellar at The Hotel Salem for comedy, conversation, career stories, and video clips. Doors creak open at 6:30 PM. Add the VIP meet and greet to get face to face with your favorite witchy aunties. Can’t make it? A second show flies in October 29 at 4:00 PM. Pick your date, then pick your broom. Double the Hilda, double the cackle. Cackle cackle!

Yeston & Kopit’s Phantom at 7:30 PM
Something’s lurking beneath the Paris Opera House, honeys, and it’s wearing half a mask. North Shore Music Theatre presents Yeston & Kopit’s Phantom, a lush, romantic reimagining of the classic, where tormented Erik haunts the shadows and falls for Christine, a gifted young singer. Tonight is the Out at the North Shore performance, with a post-show reception, so stick around and haunt the lobby with fellow theater ghosts. Expect about 2 hours 40 minutes of haze, fog, and strobes. Additional showtimes available from October 27 through November 1. Unmask the drama.

Terror Ticket: Raveyard at 8:00 PM
Dance like nobody’s watching. Except, honeys, somebody is, and they don’t have a face. The Haunted Neighborhood turns the Haunted Witch Village and Frankenstein’s Castle into a haunted house rave, with a live DJ spinning inside the haunt. It’s the graveyard shift’s office party: fog, eerie lighting, live actors, photo ops, and zombies who got rhythm. It’s a sober Halloween party, so the only spirits are the ones grabbing your ankle on the dance floor. Find it at The Lost Library, if you dare. Come for the haunt, stay for the drop. Monster mash, remixed.
SAFETY 80’S – 21+ Halloween Show (The Late Show) at 8:00 PM
Totally rad, totally undead. The Cut raises the ’80s from the grave with SAFETY, and honeys, this is not your average ’80s band. Four lead vocalists haunt the stage, channeling Madonna, Prince, Cyndi Lauper, Talking Heads, and more for a costumed Halloween monster mash in Gloucester. Cyndi had it almost right: on Halloween, ghouls just want to haunt. So tease your hair like you’ve seen a ghost, slap on the glow-in-the-dark face paint, and live your best material ghoul life as a zombie, witch, or vampire from the decade that never died. It’s the late show, 21+ with positive ID, so pack it with your fangs and dance until the coffins rattle.
SALEM DEVILS NIGHT at 9:30 PM
The night before Halloween belongs to the devil, honeys, and Koto Underground is turning up the heat. Salem Devils Night opens with a Devils Night Satanic Mass presented by The Devils Reign and officiated by Church of Satan Reverend Andy Howl, with Daddy Baphy, Sorceress Morgana Soles, Rev. Christopher Lee, The Daughters of Darkness, and more. Then the amps start howling: Stryga, Troll Milk, Warcastle, and a mass doom theremin intro from Doom Machine. Limited tickets available, so sell your soul early. The devil’s in the details, darling. Hell of a night.

The Haunted Hall – Ames Hall Gothic Series at 8:00 PM
Halloween night, honeys, and the ghosts want a concert. Salem YMCA presents The Haunted Hall, part of the Ames Hall Gothic Series, where pianist Eleena Gelfgatt plays a 45-minute solo concert entirely by candlelight in historic Ames Memorial Hall. Seasonal classical repertoire, flickering shadows, no intermission, and a Carnegie Hall debut on her résumé. Slip in between the haunts and the parties, and let every eerie note crawl up your spine. All proceeds support Creative Arts programming and scholarships at the YMCA of the North Shore. The ghosts are holding extra shows October 29 through 31, so pick your night to haunt. Haunting, hushed, and wildly classy. Bring your boo.
Wrong Turn: Haunted Gallery Event at 8:00 PM
Take a wrong turn, honeys. On Halloween night, it’s the right one. Lumina Collective takes over Galleries at Lynn Arts for Wrong Turn, an adult Halloween art experience where art, music, costumes, and nightlife collide for one night only. Expect eerie visuals, creative installations, dancing, drinks, and a costume contest with prizes, so come dressed as your most monstrous self. Early birds can snag a limited gift bag stuffed with sponsored adult goodies, first come, first served. Gather your ghouls, pick your looks, and watch every shadow. One night. One gallery. One turn. Don’t look back.
Double Trouble: Halloween Night Dance Party at 8:00 PM
Double, double, drag and trouble. On Halloween night, drag icons Maxine Harrison and Buster Pants rise again at Club Gulu, aka Gulu-Gulu Cafe, for the Double Trouble Halloween Night Dance Party. Live DJ sets, dancing all night, and specialty seasonal cocktails and mocktails, aka witches’ brew. Feeling brave? Take the mystery shot. Feeling deadly? Black Widow cider. Feeling like the end of the season? Grim Harvest beer. Feeling all three? Same, honeys. Don’t forget to buy a round for the kitchen! Oh, and last year it sold out, so don’t get left out in the fog. Heads up: Salem clears and closes the streets after the final drone show around 10:30 PM, so claim your haunt early. Two queens, one floor, zero chill.

Hocus Pocus Decorations at Ropes Mansion at 10:00 AM
Calling all Hocus Pocus fans, honeys, because the witches are packing up their spellbook. Peabody Essex Museum dresses Ropes Mansion in full Sanderson sister glam, so Allison’s house is serving witchy looks from 10:00 AM to 8:00 PM. This is the last week to see it, October 26 through November 1, so don’t let it vanish at sunrise. The witches locked the doors behind them, so no peeking inside this time. Oh witch, please. The haunted exterior steals the show, and the historic garden is open dawn to dusk. Snap your selfie, strike your best Winifred, and run amok, amok, amok. Sistahs, assemble. One last time.
Consider this your book of shadows, honeys. Ten haunts, zero survivors. We worked the full graveyard shift to put it together and only lost one fang. It’s somewhere in Salem. Find it, keep it.
Ghoul or ghost? Both. Around seven(ish). Obviously. Seven(ish) is when the dead get up, honeys. That’s just some of what’s sevening this week. The full lineup lives on the calendar, and it’s the whole Essex County haunt and beyond. CC members, got something sevening? Submit a member marketing request and we’ll raise it from the dead. We see you.
Not on the newsletter yet? That’s the scariest thing we’ve heard all week. Fix that. It haunts your inbox in the best way. And follow us on the socials, @creativecollectivema and @creativecollectiveexplores, both, every week, no exceptions.
Until next week, Essex County. The fog is rolling, the graves are restless, and Halloween is finally here. Stay sevening. You know where to find us. We’re everywhere, lurking in every shadow. Mwahahahahaha…
– (unforever) yeong and the (s)evening shift, clocking off the graveyard shift. Boo, honeys. Happy Halloween and Halloqueens.
