Consulting

Turn local ideas into programs that actually work.

Creative Collective works with municipalities, economic development teams, cultural institutions, and community partners that want more than another report. We help turn good intentions into practical programs, stronger partnerships, active public spaces, and business-support systems people will actually use.

Our advice comes from doing the work. Since 2017, we have built a 350+ member business ecosystem across Essex County, created a nine-profile marketing network with more than 95,000 combined followers, produced signature events, and worked across business, tourism, arts, advocacy, and city government.

Where we can help

Placemaking and placekeeping

We help communities activate public spaces through events, programs, and partnerships – then build the structure needed to keep that energy going. The goal is not a single busy weekend. It is a place people return to, participate in, and feel invested in.

Business ecosystem design

A useful business network needs real connective tissue. We design peer-powered systems where entrepreneurs can share knowledge, solve problems together, find opportunities, and work smarter within a larger network.

Partnership development

We help businesses, municipalities, colleges, cultural organizations, tourism partners, and economic development groups find the work they can do better together. That includes facilitating conversations, defining shared goals, building trust, and creating a clear path from agreement to action.

Tourism and creative-sector integration

Tourism, arts, culture, and small business are often treated as separate conversations. They are not. We help communities connect those sectors so visitor activity creates more opportunity for local makers, artists, entrepreneurs, venues, and year-round businesses.

Implementation support

Strategy only matters if someone can put it to work. We can stay involved through program design, partnership facilitation, launch support, event production, team training, and ongoing refinement. We do not disappear when the final document is delivered.

How we work

  1. Listen and map what is already there. We begin with the people doing the work – business owners, community members, institutional partners, and local teams. We identify assets, gaps, existing relationships, and the friction slowing progress.
  2. Build the strategy together. We turn what we learn into priorities, programs, roles, budgets, partnerships, and practical measures of success.
  3. Put it into practice. When useful, we help launch the work, facilitate the room, train the team, produce the pilot, or manage the first phase.
  4. Measure, learn, and adapt. Communities change. The work should be able to change with them.

This is community-centered consulting, but it is also implementation-minded. The humans matter more than the businesses – and the plan has to work for both.

Who you’ll work with

John leads the work.

Every consulting engagement is led by John Andrews, Founder and President of Creative Collective. John works at the intersection of the creative sector, economic development, tourism, and small business. He has led projects with municipalities and organizations across Beverly, Salem, Peabody, Lynn, and Lawrence and serves as a house doctor consultant for MassDevelopment.

A team that knows how to build.

Creative Collective’s team brings practical experience in business support, event production, marketing, membership, community engagement, and the creative sector. The strategy stays connected to the people who will actually carry it forward.

A 350+ member toolbox.

Our member ecosystem is one of the things that makes this work different. When a project needs a designer, producer, historian, marketer, photographer, performer, vendor coordinator, or a connector with deep local knowledge, we are not starting cold. We can bring the right people into the room and into the work.

We do not just write reports. We make connections, build the team, and help execute.

We practice what we consult

Creative Collective is not approaching this work from theory alone. Our recommendations are shaped by years of building, producing, convening, troubleshooting, and adjusting in real communities.

  • A 350+ member business ecosystem spanning Salem, Beverly, Peabody, Lynn, and communities across Essex County
  • A nine-profile social network with more than 95,000 combined followers
  • Salem's Haunted Happenings Marketplace, creating opportunity for 60+ vendors during the city's busiest season
  • Salem Arts Festival, co-produced with Salem Main Streets since 2019 and welcoming 10,000+ people annually
  • Year-round gatherings and programs that keep relationships active beyond a single event or grant cycle
  • Cross-sector work connecting small businesses, municipalities, cultural institutions, tourism partners, and community organizations

We know what it takes to move from idea to launch – and what it takes to keep the work useful after the initial excitement wears off.

Let's build something useful.

If your community has a strong idea, a stalled initiative, too many disconnected partners, or a program that needs to move from planning into action, let's talk. We will start with what is already working, name what is getting in the way, and decide whether Creative Collective is the right partner for the next step.
